Eatery A is Des Moines' destination for Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. Perfecting simple dishes that focus on local, quality ingredients, we strive to offer our guests exotic flavor profiles that let the ingredients take center stage.

Eatery A is filled with reclaimed wood from central Iowa — a testament to our roots and a celebration of the transformative power of wood and smoke.

The centerpiece of our kitchen is a wood-burning oven, where we create simple and fresh Mediterranean-style pizzas and sides.

Join us for a truly unique dining experience with friends and family and enjoy a range of dishes designed to share. Take a seat in our dining room, at the bar, or on our spacious patio for a chance to enjoy brunch (Fri.-Sun.), dinner, and the best happy hour in town — pizzas, draft brews, and wines half-off every day from 3pm-6pm.

Jason Simon, Owner

In 2008, Jason founded Alba in Des Moines’ East Village with a small budget and a hunger for contemporary American cuisine. Years later, he set his sights on a new kind of restaurant–one that would serve light, delicious fare from across the sea. In Spring 2014, Eatery A was born. Jason led the vision for the back-to-basics menu and décor, celebrating both the simple, fresh ingredients of Mediterranean cuisine and his Iowa roots.

Andy Sayre, Head Chef

Did you know that Greene County High School in Jefferson, IA has a restaurant where students learn the culinary arts and residents can dine during the semester? Chef Sayre cut his teeth through that program and it launched him to the Culinary Arts at Iowa Central CC and then Des Moines. He has held chef positions at Baru 66, Echo Valley and Mirabelle at Beaver Creek. Now the Head Chef at Eatery A he continues to explore new cuisines and the way food can bring people together. On a day off he can be found with his family, probably making them delicious food.

Matt Jones, General Manager

Whenever possible it’s steak and veggies at home with his wife and two sons, our GM Matt Jones knows life is best kept simple. He enjoys seeing a restaurant run smoothly and being part of a team. You may have seen him in Las Vegas or Denver, CO but he saw opportunity in Des Moines’ thriving hospitality scene. Now back in his home state he goes outdoors to spend time with his boys and hopefully do some golfing. His serene demeanor may mask a wealth of historical facts and a steel-trap for your favorite drink, just try him.
